anonymous gallery (NY), in collaboration with LLANO (MX), presents Consignment, a solo exhibition by Débora Delmar.
Dear [Name / Gallery Team],
My name is Débora Delmar, and I’m writing to invite you to participate in a new project I’m developing for my upcoming solo exhibition at anonymous gallery in New York, which will be opening on November 6th, 2026. The exhibition focuses on the legacies, histories, and stories of galleries that have closed since 2020 but through the display of furniture, office equipment, archival ephemera, or other materials that formed part of your gallery's everyday life.
My practice examines systems of value, circulation, labour, and institutional structures through sculpture, installation, contracts, and appropriated objects and materials. I often create situations that investigate my relationship with institutions by reconfiguring roles, relationships, and forms of exchange, bringing the structures, negotiations, and systems that shape cultural production into the work itself.
The exhibition explores the visible and invisible infrastructures of commercial galleries and the changing conditions under which they operate. The invitation is intentionally broad and could include furniture, office equipment, display fixtures, archival ephemera, correspondence, business cards, catalogues, photographs, filing systems, labels, or other objects that you wish to include. I understand that some galleries have recently been reviewing or selling furnishings and equipment. If you are considering parting with any of these, whether or not they have appeared in a sales PDF circulated to other galleries, I would be grateful if you might consider including them in this project.
Within the exhibition, these items will be presented alongside their corresponding consignment agreements. All participating galleries will remain anonymous unless they expressly wish to be acknowledged. The displayed contracts will have identifying and commercially sensitive information redacted, and any provenance retained as part of the work's documentation will remain confidential. Rather than treating gallery infrastructure as neutral support, the project understands these objects and documents as active participants in shaping an institutional identity. By bringing contracts and other administrative documents that are normally invisible components of galleries’ operations into the exhibition, the project foregrounds the legal, economic, and labour structures that underpin them. In this context, the contract becomes part of the artwork itself, revealing how value, ownership, and institutional identity are continually produced and negotiated.
The project is rooted in a genuine sense of care, respect, and inquiry about the changing conditions affecting the contemporary arts ecosystem and the people who sustain it. I completely understand the sensitivity of this invitation, and there is absolutely no expectation to participate. However, your gallery’s participation would meaningfully contribute to the broader conversation the exhibition hopes to foster.
If this invitation resonates with you, I would be delighted to discuss the project further and explore possibilities together.
With best wishes,
Débora Delmar
anonymous gallery would like to thank Agustina Ferreyra, Air de Paris, Altman Siegel, CLEARING, Galerie Francesca Pia, Gavin Brown’s Enterprise, Helena Anrather, Queer Thoughts, No Gallery, Galerie Zeller Van Almsick, and the other galleries that have generously agreed to participate.
